IMPORTANT: The patient should always administer their own insulin as an incorrect dose can be fatal.

Plan of Action if the patient is unconscious

  1.  Perform the steps from the Basic Life Support and CPR Chart and call 000.
  2. DO NOT give anything by mouth to patient.

Plan of Action if the patient is conscious

    1.  If the patient is co-operative, give them a sugar drink or lolly or help them with the self-administration of their own medication.
    2. DO NOT give them non-sugar drinks.
    3. Seek medical advice and if in doubt call 000.
