First Aid Supplies
Having a first aid kit with the proper First Aid Supplies ensures that you will be prepared in case of minor emergency. Your supplies should be kept in a clean container, and stored in a familiar place, that everyone in your home or business is aware of. With a proper kit and proper placement, you won’t have to search far and wide, for the supplies, that you need because everything is easily accessible.
For your kit you will need the following first aid supplies kit:
You will need a carrying case. A small plastic tool box or a tackle box will work. They are inexpensive and easy to find.
Include twelve to twenty bandaids of various sizes.
Adhesive tape should be in, one half inch and one that is one inch wide.
Gauze dressings. 4X4 dressings work well. Have about 12.
2×2 gauze pads. Both 4×4 and 2×2, these should be wrapped and sterile.
Roller gauze. This is sometimes called Kling bandage. 2-4 rolls.
An elastic bandage such as an Ace bandage. If you have a 4-inch roll it will work well on cuts requiring a pressure bandage as well as on sprains.
Ice packs. These are the type that get cold when you squeeze them. They will help with swelling.
Butterfly bandages or steri-strips. These come in packages and one will be sufficient.
Betadine, either in a small bottle or betadine swabs.
Antibiotic ointment such as bacitracin or neosporin.
Contact dermatitis will require the use of a cortisone ointment. This is for things such as contact with poison oak or poison ivy.
Benadryl to control possible allergic reactions. The capsules come in 25 mg capsules and a box of 12 or 24 should be adequate.
A small vial of eye wash. This can be normal saline or one of the name brands. Normal saline is less likely to cause an allergic reaction if you are not sure of existing allergies.
Bandage scissors are a must. Bandage scissors have a blunt end and will not cause additional injuries.
Tweezers in a disposable package. Sometimes the individual tweezers will be labeled forceps. These are great for splinters.
It is necessary to have a good first aid manual handy. It should be inside your kit. If you have children or others who may be in charge of your home for any period, you should also have a sticker with emergency phone numbers attached to the inside of the box. The numbers you should have are your doctor, the fire department, police department and poison control office.
By having the numbers and your First Aid Supplies available together in one spot, then if the need arises these can all be gathered in one motion, instead of a treasure hunt throughout medicine cabinets, bathrooms and kitchen drawers.
First aid supplies will provide the most protection, if everyone in your household or business knows where they are. The above items should not cost a lot of money and will probably cost less than a commercially prepared kit. If you do prefer to purchase a first aid kit, they are readily available online or in most department stores or drug stores.
